Washington station brings back “Commuter Idle”

wtop_152All news WTOP Washington has announced the return of “Commuter Idle” .

It’s an extreme commuter competition in which listeners share their daily travel horrors and compete for prizes and the chance to be crowned WTOP’s “Commuter Idle.”

Entrants have to submit a story describing their commute and the effect it has on them and their family. The listener crowned WTOP’s 2013 “Commuter Idle” wins $1,000 in petrol money and a limo ride to and from work. The runners-up each receive $150 in petrol cards.

The top 10 entries will be spotlighted online and on-air, with listeners weighing in as the list is narrowed to three.  The remaining finalists will be shadowed by WTOP reporters, with their extraordinary commutes featured the week of May 20 and the grand prize commuter unveiled on Friday, May 24.

WTOP Program Director Laurie Cantillo says, “There are so many amazing stories of personal sacrifices that D.C.-area commuters make for their careers and families. Our goal is to tell their stories, foster a spirit of camaraderie, and provide some fiscal and comedic relief for our road warriors. When we launched Commuter Idle last year, many listeners quipped, ‘Now I don’t feel so bad about my commute!’“
