Where would John Cleese be if he wasn’t Cleese?

Commercial Radio Australia this week released their latest commercial for commercials in the long running series written by Ralph van Dijk of Eardrum Australia.

For the first time, they’ve gone for a big time celebrity, John Cleese, to suggest that radio is a personal medium that doesn’t need big production or a big time celebrity, like Cleese, to get its message across. Eh?

There’s little doubt that the presence of Cleese adds big time presence to the ad – dwarfing little time celebrity, Mark Mitchell, the ad’s other voice, who doesn’t even get to mention his name.

If you haven’t heard it click here (Windows Media) now and then tell us what you think. How do you rate it?

Is it somewhat counterproductive to use a celebrity to say radio doesn’t need one, or does the level of cut-through compensate for the conundrum?

As usual, you are under no obligation to stick to this topic. You may use this forum to express any view you like, provided it has something to do with radio and provides no grounds for litigation.
