EON Broadcasters, owners of Sydney’s 2CH, has announced its first new appointment after taking over the station from Macquarie Media in January.

2CH in the hands of a Masters Apprentice

Glenn Wheatley talks to Peter Saxon about the strange and drawn-out sales process and what his plans are for 2CH.

Over 50 years ago when Bob Rogers interviewed a young Glenn Wheatley, bass player for Master’s Apprentices, one of Australia’s hottest bands at the time, he could not have imagined that some day this long haired git with the tight pants and the outsized package would be his boss.

After a long and tortured sales process for Macquarie Media Limited (MML) to divest itself of 2CH, it seems the front runner to take over the station is EON Broadcasters.

Radio has been pretty good to me: Bob Rogers' 90th birthday

Saturday 03 December, 2016
Bob Rogers turned 90 this week, celebrating his birthday with workmates at 2CH after finishing his daily shift.

Rogers is one of the world's oldest daily live broadcasters. He is heard six days a week, presenting mornings Monday to Friday on the Sydney station, and also hosts a pre-recorded weekend nostalgia show.

He told Channel 7: "In 90 years Radio has been wonderful for me...

Is this a joke? Latest on the 2CH sale, Alan Jones verses ACMA and News Limited

Monday 24 October, 2016
Last week Alan Jones labelled the ACMA “experts with no expertise” in comments about the forced sale of 2CH.

Now News Corp has been drawn into the debate about radio ownership laws, with a column today by Mark Day countering Jones’ remarks.

“We’re the most over regulated country in the world,” Jones told his audience. “ACMA… are the experts with no expertise.”

No word on 2CH sale

Thursday 13 October, 2016

The question of who will buy 2CH is still unresolved.

The company passed the deadline for the sale on 30 September, and has since then been in breach of ACMA regulations requiring no more than two stations to a market. Macquarie Media owns 2GB, 2UE and Magin 2CH in the Sydney market.

The ACMA has once again declined to comment about the sale and whether the regulator has had any contact with Macquarie Media about the sale .

Who will buy radio 2CH?

Monday 05 September, 2016

Now that September has rolled around, Macquarie Media has less than a month to finalise its required sale of 2CH.
radioinfo readers will recall that Macquarie Media got a 6-month extension on the sale process from regulator ACMA which is required because they currently own three stations in the Sydney market, which is one more than is allowed in the two to a market rule.

Talk of change at 2UE. And hope of none at 2CH

Sunday 15 November, 2015

Through the corridors of 2UE it has pretty much been accepted, for some months now that come the new year the station will have a different format and likely, a different line-up.

It will still be Talk but in a very different style to what it has been over recent years. “We’re the owners of two talk radio stations in Sydney,” says Adam Lang, COO of the recently rebranded MRN, now known as Macquarie Media Limited (MML). “We’ll be adopting a strategy of one complementing the other, not competing head to head.”
