Vale 'The Princess' Caroline Laws

It has been announced this morning on the Talk Back To Me program with Marcus Paul, on 2SM and the Supernetwork, that John Laws’ beloved wife Caroline, whom he referred to as “The Princess,” has passed away after a long battle with cancer.

Paul has posted on social media:

 

“John first met the love of his life at the tender age of 16. At the time Caroline was 14, and they met at a dance at a mutual friend’s Lindfield home in around 1951.

Rod Christopher has passed away.

I’ve since been in contact with Rod’s daughter Lissa who confirmed, "Dad had bronchial pneumonia just two weeks before he died. It is likely that the bushfire smoke made him vulnerable to the original infection as it was fierce in this region for quite a while from about November.

Valentine's Day advertisers on radio: AirCheck report

With Valentine’s Day coming up, AirCheck Australia has compared the top Jewellers, Florists, Restaurants and Chocolate advertisers on radio during the last six weeks.

Argyle Jewellers had the most advertisements on air in the Jewellery category with 327 spots placed in Brisbane on 4BC and 4BH. Diamonds International followed closely behind, airing 322 ads.

The Super Network will go silent for Goldie this Friday

To acknowledge their sincere respect for Grant Goldman who recently lost his battle to cancer, 2SM Super Network Chairman Bill Caralis, the Caralis family and Super Network staff will show their respect for the influence Goldie had on the Super Network and the Australian radio industry in general.

At 9.00am Friday morning all 107 transmitters of the Super Network will fall silent for one minute to remember their friend, colleague, mentor and mate.

Gary O'Callaghan's funeral has been confirmed for 1pm this Monday at St Agnes, Port Macquarie.
 
The former Sydney radio icon passed away last week aged 83.
 
He started his career at 2SM and joined 2UE in 1956 where he stayed until his retirement in 2003, apart from a short stint at 2KY during Kerry Packer's brief ownership of 2UE.
 
O'Callaghan moved back to the mid north coast of NSW and continued to work at 2MC.
 

Geoff Field quits 2SM for "a new exciting opportunity"

Highly respected News Reader Geoff Field who was suddenly retrenched from 2Day-FM after almost 19 years has quit 2SM after just six months.

Of his departure from 2Day Field has told his faccebook followers: "As many of you know I was angry and shocked, but in hindsight it was the best things that could have happened.

 After more than 18 years working on FM radio, Geoff Field is heading back to AM ... and FM.
 
Geoff was unceremoniously let go from 2Day FM a year ago after the Hit Network opted for a national news update read by Emma Freedman.
 
After a year travelling the world with his partner Jason, Geoff will be joining the 2SM Super Network which not only supplies news to Sydney, but services almost 40 other stations in NSW and Queensland.
 

Vale Reg Grundy and Bill Tuckey

Sad news overnight with the loss of two great media personalities who both got their start in radio.

Reg Grundy passed away yesterday aged 92.

Also over the weekend, former Wheels magazine editor and motoring expert and author Bill Tuckey passed away aged 80. Although Tuckey is well known as motoring journalist, he began his career as a broadcaster at 3DB in Melbourne in the early 1980s.
