2UE holds public forum before NSW State Election

2UE will host a special live broadcast in Parramatta on Tuesday, February 24th in the lead up to the NSW State Election to give voters the chance to have their say.

Called Your Say, the election forum will be hosted by 2UE Mornings’ presenter Stuart Bocking and will be attended by several NSW Ministers including Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian, Treasurer Andrew Constance and Education Minister Adrian Piccoli. Shadow Ministers will also take part in the debate.

John Williamson to help celebrate 2UE's 90th birthday on Australia Day

Sydney’s first radio station, 2UE 954 will celebrate its 90th birthday on Australia Day with a live outside broadcast from Queens Square on Macquarie Street, adjacent to Hyde Park in the CBD.

The special event marks 90 years since Australia Day 1925 when the on-switch was flicked at the country’s first commercial radio station: 2UE (originally known as 2EU).

Australia Day is the birthday of 2UE. The station started as 2EU on January 26 1925.

The station will be broadcasting from the Sydney CBD from 5am with John and Garry who’ll be joined at 8:00 by 2UE’s longest serving breakfast presenter Gary O’Callaghan. Stuart Bocking and then Angela Catterns will follow with a number of special guests including John Williamson who’s scheduled to sing Happy Birthday.

2UE's lineup changes and new ad campaign: AUDIO

2UE has announced a slightly changed lineup for 2015, with daytime presenters remaining in place, but some changes to nights.

The station will launch an outdoor and on air campaign that will run across Sydney from next Monday, the first day of ratings for 2015.

In it's 90th year, 2UE will launch the new strapline, ‘Sydney’s original 2UE 954’, recognising the station’s position as the first and original Sydney commercial radio

Everything old is new again!

Radio Green Room moderator Jose Auditore found a blast from the past in his archives, which reminded him of the current merger of Fairfax Media and Macquarie Radio Network's 2GB.

In 1979, Fairfax had taken over 2GB and appointed Max Suich (pictured) to "steer 2GB out of it's rating's mire."

Vale Les Hay: Funeral Monday 5 January

Les Hay passed away last Saturday at the age of 97.

His funeral was held today, Monday 5th January, 11am, at Northern Suburbs Crematorium.

Les was Sales Manager of both 2UW and 2SM during the 50s – 70s.

He also spent time at 2UE in the late 70s doing research work for John Brennan, before retiring after a highly successful career in the radio industry.

Fairfax and Macquarie Radio Network merge

Finally, the deal that's been on again off again for over a decade has been closed.

  • MRN and Fairfax Radio to merge.
  • Russell Tate chairman, Adam Lang COO, new board to be formed.
  • 2CH and MRN Regional stations to be sold.
  • The deal requires formal shareholder ratification.


Macquarie Radio Network Limited and Fairfax Media Limited have entered into a merger implementation agreement to unite their respective radio businesses.The much anticipated news has been annoucned today.

MRN Fairfax merger talks back on again

Fairfax Radio and Macquarie Radio Network have confirmed that are in "discussions" about a possible merger.

In two related announcements, MRN and Fairfax both informed the Stock Exchange about discussions related to a "transaction," as required by the excahnge's 'continuous disclosure' obligations. But no deal has been reached yet.

Whisperer wins big on 2UE

In their final Breakfast show of 2014, 2UE’s John Stanley and Garry Linnell this morning awarded a small car to a lucky 2UE listener. 

Across the year, the 2UE breakfast show has been calling for listeners to contact the show with their ‘whisper’ – that is, news or a rumour that the people of Sydney need to know about. Across the year, several hundred listeners have contributed with a range of information that has led to the program following up with some of these issues, and has certainly led to some interesting commentary.
