ABC and CBC announce a creative and commercial collaboration

The ABC and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) have announced a creative and commercial collaboration that will enhance the reach and impact of their content across both countries.

The two national public broadcasters have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to co-develop English-language drama, comedy, factual, children’s and podcast content to maximise the value of their public funding for audiences and will also provide further opportunities for co-financing and format sales of drama and children’s content.

Could streaming force the ABC and SBS to merge

According to The Australian today, the ABC and SBS could be forced to merge as streaming services wreck the broadcast licence revenue that the government uses to fund public broadcasting.

Sudanese refugee Natal Jimma has been announced as this year’s recipient of the AFTRS/ABC Selwyn Speight Diversity Scholarship.
 
The scholarship is made available through a $20,000 bequest from the late, distinguished ABC journalist Selwyn Speight.
 
Currently completing AFTRS 2019 Graduate Diploma in Radio, Natal’s interest in radio began in Sudan and includes over five years’ experience at university and community radio stations in Australia.
 

River Lives, a special ABC Radio focus on the Murray-Darling

The ABC’s Director of Regional & Local, Michael Mason, farewells the corporation after 34 years.  
 
Today is his last day.
 
During his career, Michael worked in Sydney, Canberra and Adelaide and managed the ABC’s Local Radio and Regional networks as well as ABC RN, before becoming Director of Radio in 2014 and then Director of R&L at the beginning of this year following the corporation’s internal restructure.

Michael Mason to leave the ABC

ABC's Director of Regional & Local, Michael Mason, has announced he will leave the national broadcaster at the end of the year.

He emailed staff in the Regional and Local Division (previously called Radio Division) today with the following message:

I am writing to let you know that very shortly the acting Managing Director, David Anderson, will make an announcement regarding my decision to leave the ABC at the end of the year.
