The ABC has won two awards at the annual Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism announced at a gala dinner last night at the Crown Palladium in Melbourne.

Radio/Audio Documentary, Feature, Podcast or Special: Hagar Cohen, Background Briefing, ABC Radio National, "Left in Harm's Way".

Former commercial radio journalist Debi Marshall was given a gong for Journalistic Leadership.

ABC Regional Radio format change stirs up objections

ABC Regional Radio stations in some states are rejigging their breakfast and morning lineups to extend the breakfast show until 10am.

While the changes are aimed at better resourcing the programs, it has been interpreted by some as a cut.

radioinfo has been told there will be no job losses associated with the schedule changes, but some politicians are not convinced the changes are a good move.

Faine probes Michael Mason on the future of ABC Radio

Michael Mason, Director of Radio at the ABC was invited onto Mornings with Jon Faine on ABC 774 Melbourne this morning to discuss the future of the public broadcaster.

One of the reasons for discussing this topic now is the BBC's Charter Review, which some commentators have used to raise the possibility of a similar review at the ABC.

ABC Radio has begun a process of consultation with its regional staff as the national broadcaster prepares to introduce a new regional division that will combine news, rural and regional programming staff into one area.
Some staff fear they will lose their jobs as a result of the restructure.

Steve Smith wins ABC's McGilvray Medal

Steve Smith is the winner of the McGilvray Medal for ABC Grandstand’s Test Cricketer of the Year for 2014.

Smith narrowly pipped David Warner and Mitchell Johnson in the votes cast by the ABC Radio Grandstand commentary team including Jim Maxwell, Drew Morphett and Quentin Hull.

In the calendar year Smith scored 1,146 runs at an average of 81.85 including five centuries. He also took five wickets, several outstanding catches and captained the team in two Tests taking over from the injured Michael Clarke.
