ABC suspends commentators Morrow and Ryan

ABC radio footy commentators David Morrow and Warren Ryan have been suspended pending an investigation into racist remarks during a broadcast.
 

The investigation was launched on Wednesday after complaints from listeners after last Friday's call of the Sydney Roosters-Canterbury game. 

Ryan used the term "old darky"  during the second commentary, saying:

Peter Jepperson was a much loved colleague of all at ABC Radio Melbourne. He passed away this week after a long illness, aged 69.

Jeppo made his debut on ABC Radio as part of the first PM program in 1969.

After a brief secondment to the Prime Minister's Department for Expo 70 he returned to the ABC as a current affairs reporter in 1971.

For the next decade he reported on state and federal politics, social issues and the changes to the National Wage System, as well as travelling to the Middle East in 1975.

​Kate Dundas to depart ABC Radio helm

Director of Radio for the ABC Kate Dundas has resigned after five years in the top role.

She said in statement, “While a difficult decision to reach, I feel it is absolutely the right time for me to hand over the stewardship of what is obviously my favourite part of the ABC.”

Virginia Trioli to host AM

Virginia Trioli will take over from Tony Eastley as host of ABC Radio's flagship current affairs program AM.

After ten years a the helm, Eastley is returning to television, and will join News 24 as a senior presenter.

Eastley was previously a foreign correspondent and tv reporter, before moving to radio a decade ago.

Glenn Robbins & Dave O’Neil – Now I’ll have to Kill You

The brainchild of Glenn Robbins and Dave O’Neil, “Now I’ll have to Kill You” is a tell all radio chat show that will go to air on ABC Local Radio each weeknight for the next two weeks.
 
Glenn and Dave will be joined on the show by a who’s who of Australian Comedy.
 

Top paid ABC Radio identities

Director of Radio, Kate Dundas is, unsurprisingly, the most highly paid ABC Radio staff member, earning $298,207. She is 14th on the list of most highly paid staff members at the national broadcaster, behind ABC Newsreader Juanita Philips and a range of corporate identities.

Former 2GB CEO Angela Clarke, who is now the ABC's Director of Innovation, comes in 5 places above Kate Dundas, earning $334,225.

Because Australians pay for the ABC through their taxes, ABC Director of Radio Kate Dundas says it is important for the national broadcaster to be able to measure and articulate its value.

In her presentation to the Australian Broadcasting Summit she looked at various ways the ABC measures its effectiveness, from ratings to the development of Australian culture.
