ARIA announces new chart sponsorship deal with Motorola and Nova

The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), Motorola Mobile Devices Australia and New Zealand and DMG, have announced the formation of a strategic alliance for Australia’s ARIA music charts.

Under the agreement, Motorola will become the official sponsor of the ARIA Charts and gain co-naming rights to a range of key ARIA events, including the annual ARIA Awards and the ARIA No.1 Chart Awards.

The deal will also see the re-launch of ARIA printed charts available for consumers through retail stores across Australia and the introduction of new Motorola promotions surrounding local and international artists and new releases.

The new agreement will also see the launch of the official Motorola ARIA Chart show throughout Australia on the Nova network. This new live music program will be hosted by Jabba each Sunday afternoon.

Denis Handlin, ARIA Chairman and Chairman & CEO, Sony BMG Music Entertainment Australia and New Zealand, said this new direction for ARIA will cement the ARIA Charts as the one and only authoritative music chart in Australia.

Handlin told radioinfo: “For over 20 years the ARIA Charts have accurately reflected the music that Australian consumers determine to be the most popular, based on their retail purchases from over 1,100 music retailers across Australia.”

“ARIA is committed to ensuring that the ARIA Charts continue to be the one and only authoritative music chart in the country. This new alliance with both Motorola and Nova will assist us greatly in achieving this objective. We are excited about the opportunities that these new relationships will bring and look forward to hearing the first exclusive Motorola ARIA Chart show this Sunday afternoon”.

Dean Buchanan, Group Program Director for DMG Radio Australia, told radioinfo Nova is proud to be the broadcast partner for the new initiative with ARIA and Motorola and looks forward to celebrating the amazing success and potential of the Australian music industry.

“Nova has had a dramatic impact on the Australian music scene since its launch in 2001 with more styles, genres and Australian music being exposed and celebrated than ever before. Championing new and hit music is central to Nova’s success, so the Motorola ARIA Chart show is a natural direction for the network.”

“The weekly Motorola ARIA show will be Nova’s first live, national show and the first place for listeners, music buyers and music lovers to hear each week’s top song.”

The Motorola ARIA Chart show will be broadcast nationally, live at 3pm EDST on the Nova Network each Sunday from 5 February 2006.
