Croc Media’s AFL coverage expands to new markets

Expanded reach into the Northern Territory, Tasmania and a new Western Australian-flavoured match of the day across regional WA have all been added to Australia’s regionally syndicated live AFL call.

And a host of stars, including retired Saint, Justin Koschitzke, and modern-day stars Drew Petrie, Jimmy Bartel, Brad Sewell, Nick Riewoldt and Nick Dal Santo have also joined the all-star commentary team.

Crocmedia chief executive Craig Hutchison says the broadcast will reach further than ever before and offer regional Australians a call second-to-none that targets those in rural areas:

“This year’s AFL LIVE call will hit 207 stations across Australia. We’re delighted to be broadcasting six games every weekend into Darwin and Friday night footy into Launceston. They’re two key markets that host AFL matches and deserve the best tailored call they can get.

“We’re delighted for the return of 3GG in Gippsland, which is where I grew up.  3GG’s reach spans as far as Pakenham, and across to Phillip Island, and we’re delighted Gippslanders can consume the AFL LIVE call.

“Having a game in WA each week which focuses predominantly on games involving Fremantle and West Coast is really exciting for those in the mining areas, who haven’t otherwise been able to enjoy the game in recent times.”

Victoria and South Australia will remain the heartland of AFL LIVE and stations will get up to six matches per weekend to enjoy Australia’s biggest game, according to Hutchison.

Crocmedia’s AFL LIVE has added an array of stars to its call team, and welcomes back some favourites too.

“We love our talent to have a regional affinity, and the quintessential country boy, Albury and Lavington’s Justin Koschitzke will add his unique sense of analysis and humour on Sundays. Pairing Kozzie and a current player’s voice each Sunday will create a unique insight into the game from people who know modern-day footy.  We’ve also been able to secure West Coast Norm Smith medallist Andrew Embley to our calling team. Andrew is a fantastic talent and is a big coup for our team,” says Hutchison.

Australia’s most versatile caller Peter Donegan headlines the broadcast and will anchor each Saturday and Sunday afternoon. He says is delighted to be working with broadcasting royalty in Rex Hunt every weekend.  “Being a Macedon Ranges boy, I love regional areas, there’s no greater game than AFL and I’m really excited to take up the challenge.”

The golden voice of AFL Sandy Roberts will continue to anchor Friday nights, while Rex Hunt enters the 35th year of his long and colourful career.  Billy Brownless, Shane Crawford, Terry Wallace, Liam Pickering and Tristan Foenander also return to the broadcast.

Hutchison thanked both McDonald’s and the TAC for their continued support of the broadcast, as co-naming partners again in 2014:

“2014 promises to be AFL LIVE’s biggest year yet, and there is a unique opportunity for brands to tell their story directly to regional areas, right across the country. It represents more than 40 per cent of the population, and we feel we can deliver it to advertisers in one hit.”
