Eddie was known and beloved by Classic FM Breakfast listeners as Emma Ayres, who arrived in Australia from England having cycled to Hong Kong with only a violin for company.  His first book Cadence traces that journey.

Julian Day will replace Emma Ayres as host of Classic Breakfast in 2015 on ABC Classic FM, beginning 19 January.

Julian has presented and produced programs on ABC Classic FM for over a decade, alongside appearances on BBC Radio 3, Triple J, Local Radio and RN. For many years Julian hosted the network’s new music programs, interviewing many of the world’s leading composers and sound artists including Max Richter, Peter Sculthorpe, Steve Reich and Laurie Anderson.

After six years presenting ABC Classic FM Breakfast, Emma Ayres has hung up her headphones and will move on to new adventures.

In the past 18 months Emma has written a book, Cadence, played with the Bombay Chamber Orchestra and toured Europe with the Australian Youth Orchestra. Prior to that, she travelled to Kabul to work with the Afghan Youth Orchestra.

In her time at ABC Classic FM, Ayres has spoken with many of the greats of classical music including the Tokyo String Quartet on their recent farewell tour.

Emma Ayres has given notice to ABC Classic FM that she plans to leave the network's breakfast show.

She is due to be a guest presenter on Radio National, then to take holidays, but will return to see out her breakfast show duties until the end of the year, giving the network time to choose a replacement.
