Applications open for the Jesse Cox Audio Fellowship

Applications are now open for the Jesse Cox Audio Fellowship, an annual $20,000 fellowship for an Australian resident to create an innovative audio work, with support from Audible, ABC, Sonar Sound, Audiocraft, Third Coast International Audio Festival and Hearsay International Audio Arts Festivals

According to the latest McNair community radio survey, FBi's average monthly listenership was 504,000 people on FBi FM and DAB+ in Sydney.

UPDATE: In its first full day of release this podcast has already reached number 15 in the iTunes music podcast chart. 

Holly Doust-Robinson and Jonathon Tooke present 'Notes From Home', a weekly podcast taking listeners into the childhood homes of Aussie musicians and introducing them to one or both parents.
 
Each episode delves into a local musician’s upbringing, their communities, diverse families and influences, aiming to capture a snapshot of Sydney creative culture in 2019.

FBi the first to install AirNet

The Australian Music Radio Airplay Project’s AirNet is now complete, with FBi Radio 94.5fm being the first station to completely integrate the new initiative with its website.

AirNet allows the station’s website to interrogate the playout computer and present playlist info and song links to people reading the website. The initiative system goes further than the usual ‘song now playing’ windows of most station websites, because website readers can see the full program playlist, artist info, linked videos and social network content.

New Sydney community station FBi launched today in front of a crowd too big to fit through the front door.

Just before noon, when the speeches ended, the vibe was expectant as the clock ticked over to the official opening time and the crowd cheered and clapped. A new version of the old Masters Apprentices song Turn on your radio, which was recorded especially for the occasion, was the first song played on FBi 94.5 FM.

Newly launched FBi is the highest powered community station ever, operating at 150 kW and covering all of Sydney.

A lot has happened since Lee Hubber and the first board of directors began to form a youth focused community radio group around ten years ago. The station encountered many trials on its way gaining its permanent licence but finally got on air this week.

In her opening speech, President Cass Wilkinson alluded to some of the history of the station and to its commitment to the youth culture and music of Sydney.
