72% of Australians are listening to as much or more radio during the COVID-19 pandemic

Australian audiences are turning to radio as a critical source of information, entertainment, and connection during the COVID-19 crisis.

 
According to audience listening figures compiled by GfK for Commercial Radio Australia, close to 3 in 4 Australians 18+ are listening to radio the same amount or more during the pandemic.
 
On the downside, 23% of people say they have decreased their in-car listening, while 18% in fact report listening to more than before, as social distancing requirements reduce travel via public transport.

Gold 104.3 begins 2020 with big numbers, leading all stations with 1.182 M listeners, from Nova96.9 (1.123) and Nova100 (1.074M) while FoxFM (1.067M) is the only other station with over one million listerners.

triple j has also begun the year well by breaking their reach record in the 5 cities for the second time running, attracting 2.249 million listeners each week.

Commercial radio listening is at an all time high: CRA annual listening summary

The number of listeners to Australian commercial radio is at a record high according to the latest data collected in the CRA’s annual listening summary, prepared by GfK.
 
10.891 million people listened to commercial radio each week across the five metro markets in 2019, up by 1.4% on 2018.
 
Of those 10.891 million people, 10.4% are aged 10-17, 11.6% are aged 18-24, 26.7% are aged 25-39, 22.5% are aged 40-54, 12.6% are aged 55-64 and 16.2% are aged 65+.

DAB+ Ratings: Elf Radio a Christmas Gift for ARN

Coles Radio (249,000) is still at the top nationally in the latest survey of DAB+ stations, and while Elf Radio (23,000) has added some tinsel to ARN’s Christmas tree, smooth relax debuted nicely in Sydney Brisbane and Melbourne adding 110,000 listeners.
 
City by city and Edge Digital leads in Sydney from Coles Radio and KIIS 90’s.
 

Triple M Newcastle the runaway leaders: GFK Survey

Triple M Newcastle has consolidated their lead in the latest GFK Survey for the Hunter, while ABC Newcastle gained 2.1 to move into second place.

 
Triple M’s gain of 1.0 now gives them 18.5 and a clear lead on the ABC’s 11.9, while Hit106.9 and triple j both lost some audience and are equal on 11.8.
 
NEWFM also had a slight gain, adding 0.8 to move to 8.9, with 2HD adding 0.5 to 6.7.
  

Hot Tomato is the pick of the crop on the Gold Coast

Local stations still dominate the Gold Coast market, and Hot Tomato is the number one station in the latest GFK survey for the Gold Coast/Tweed Heads.
 
While easing slightly from 13.4 to 12.9, GOLDFM dropped 1.9 down to 12.0, with Hit90.9, formally SEAFM, also easing 0.4 to 9.0.
