Radio still the world’s most widely consumed media: CRA takes the message to Canberra

On the eve of World Radio Day, Commercial Radio Australia has just finished hosting an event at Parliament House Canberra to focus political attention on the industry’s agenda for 2020 and the vital role of local radio in the community.

Triple M breakfast presenter Lawrence Mooney and Federal Communications Minister Paul Fletcher (pictured right) addressed the event, which was attended by industry leaders, MPs and Senators.

Hamish & Andy will return to PodcastOne Australia in 2020 with their original self-titled podcast series.

Hamish & Andy started their radio careers with PodcastOne Australia’s parent company, Southern Cross Austereo and forged new ground with ideas and adventures that earned them fiercely loyal fans of feel-good entertainment. 

The boys have taken it up a notch again; their transition into podcasting has made them the most successful commercial podcast series in Australia over the last two years.

SCA appoints new Chief Content Officer: Dave Cameron

After an extensive local and global search search, Dave Cameron has been appointed Chief Content Officer for Southern Cross Austereo.
 
Cameron, who has worked with SCA for 25 years, is currently SCA Melbourne General Manager, and in his new role he will be responsible for overseeing and delivering strategic leadership and creative excellence for SCA’s key content initiatives across its 78 FM stations, 10 DAB+ radio stations, extended digital and associated on-demand content.

SCA Podcast Division now in profit: Grant Blackley

SCA’s podcast division PodcastOne moved to its break even point a few months ago and is now beginning to make profits, according to CEO Grant Blackley.

Over the past two and a half years, the company has spent about $5 million setting up the division and recruiting podcasters.

SCA Adelaide's ground breaking playout experiment across FM and digital stations

SCA has begun an experiment in Adelaide that puts its live local breakfast show on each of its DAB+ stations in that city.

As of this morning, Hit 107 breakfast hosts Bec and Cosi are now being heard on all of Adelaide’s Hit Network DAB+ stations, using playout technology to sync the talk breaks with the different playlists of each station.

The Hit DAB+ stations previously carried automated music.

The first morning apparently went off without a hitch.

Nikki Clarkson promoted to a new executive role at SCA

Nikki Clarkson has been promoted to the role of SCA's Chief Marketing & Communications Officer. She will also join the SCA executive leadership team.
 
Clarkson’s appointment is the first in a newly expanded leadership team at SCA, with Southern Cross Austereo CEO, Grant Blackley confirming that the new roles of Chief People & Culture Officer and Chief Content Officer would also join the leadership team once appointments are made.
 

SCA selects Innovation Champions for The Lab

At the Radio Alive conference today, Tim Burrows hosted a panel of CEOs, who tackled a number of hot topics in the radio industry in their ‘fireside chat.’

Tim’s first question was about brave moves that the CEO have made, and whether they worked or not.

Adam Lang: “Every day in talk radio requires bravery… usually things work really well, that friendship of live talk radio. But sometimes we push it too hard. 99% of our broadcast minutes we can be proud of, but there are a few we can’t.”

Audio revenue is up for SCA, while TV revenue is down

A 2.4% increase in Southern Cross Austereo’s Audio revenue, for metropolitan and regional radio plus podcasting, to $453.4 M has contributed to a modest overall growth in SCA's revenue of 0.5% to $661.0M.
