Mandi Wicks appointed SBS Director of News

Mandi Wicks has been appointed the director of news and current affairs at SBS. 

Currently SBS’s director of audio and language content, she will begin the new role in late September.

“There is no other news provider that understands and reflects Australia like SBS, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to ensure we continue to play a crucial role in providing diverse perspectives from Australia and around the globe, in service of the SBS,” says Wicks.

SBS National Languages Competition winners embrace linguistic diversity in Australia

SBS Radio has announced the winners of the SBS National Languages Competition 2019, a nationwide initiative celebrating a love of learning languages and language retention in Australia.
The competition received nearly 3600 entries from all states and territories, spanning 90 languages, including Indonesian, German, Japanese and Auslan.
In the UN International Year of Indigenous languages, the competition also received more submissions from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages than ever before.

SBS has launched a new website for its 68 language services, making it easier for multicultural Australians to engage with distinctive content and services in their first language.

The development of the website reflects growing audience consumption on mobile, as digital engagement increased by 29% in the past financial year, with over 2.3 million monthly unique visitors actively engaging with the SBS language website.

SBS National Languages Competiton 2019

SBS have launched their National Languages Competition 2019 to encourage language learning and language retention in Australia, and in recognition of the United Nations’ International Year of Indigenous languages.
Now in its fourth year, the nationwide competition is open to Australians of all ages who are learning a language, including English and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages.
