Police raids on media had a chilling effect: Security Committee in session today

The Parliamentary Committee inquiring into security issues after the recent raids on media is sitting today in Sydney to discuss the issues raised by media after the recent raids.

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security will be in session all day today.

The consortium led by the ABC, News Limited and Channel Nine is currently presenting to the committee, to explain further its submission that says the recent raids have had "a chilling effect" on journalists and whistleblowers.

Will Nine end up owning all of Macquarie Media?

The merger of Nine and Fairfax is due to complete this Friday.

Along with the merger of both companies, Nine will also end up owning Fairfax Media's 54% share of Macquarie Media.

But would Nine like to own it all? Perhaps so.

Nine has responded to media speculation today with a short media statement saying the company has "had discussions" about the remaining 46% of shares in Macquarie Media, most of which are owned by John Singleton.

With today's proposed merger announcement of Fairfax and Nine, what is the status of Macquarie Media?

If the Scheme proceeds as recommended, our major shareholder will change from Fairfax Media to Nine.
