The 2017 Radio Days Europe conference was full of tried and true exhibitors, such as RCS (pictured), who have been serving the radio industry for years, and there were also some new products and services on show.

Aussie men are evolving, so is Triple M: Mike Fitzpatrick tells #RDE17

Triple M is evolving along with Australian males, according to Triple M's Mike Fitzpatrick at Radio Days Europe.

The station has been an iconic traditional male brand for decades, but Fitzpatrick told the story of how Triple M realised there is now a change in male attitudes and that it needed to respond to that.

Fitzpatrick commissioned research to understand the change in male attitudes and found that there are three segment in the male population in Australia these days:

Craig Bruce wanted to find out what makes great presenters tick and how did they get so good, when he began his GameChangers: Radio podcast series.

Speaking at Radio Days Europe today, he gave these tips for talent management that he has learnt from talking to some of the best radio performers in the business.

When you strip away the bravado the talent is real and vulnerable. It takes skill and bravery to put yourself out there on air every day, so respect them for that and support them.

How much? How to get it?

The recent launch of the .radio domain name is an important innovation for the world radio industry.

The domain will be controlled by the European Broadcasting Union, which had an information booth at this year's RadioDays Europe.

Some key points:
You can get the domain name direct from the EBU, or from your domain registry.

It will be cheaper if you get it straight from the EBU, €22 for a private website and about €200 for a professional broadcast company.

Protecting journos and fact checking in the #DonaldTrump era #RDE17

Speaking at today’s RadioDays Europe conference, Hannah Storm from the International News Safety Institute made a plea for the safety of journalists.

The rise of Donald Trump and similar politicians has seen “a contagion spread and journos have become a target of that,” said Storm.

The phenomenon of fake news and the trolling campaigns and online harassment against individual journalists, lead by people like Trump “can’t be ignored” according to the News Safety Institute.

In Amsterdam 1500 participants have gathered to hear 120 of the radio industry’s leading minds discuss ideas and initiatives about the future of radio.

This year’s theme is ‘a sound future.’

Opening the conference, organiser Anders Held said:

“I believe there is a bright future for radio if we reinvent ourselves and change… There is also a growing audio market and many new platforms which is very interesting.”

What happens at RadioDays Europe?

Here's a taste of one of the events called Fast and Curious. It's a kind of speed dating discussion for radio.

Groups move around to different tables every ten minutes and discuss a different topic.
