Rosie Beaton and Andrew Haug leaving Triple J

It’s the end of an era at triple j as the station says farewell to two long-time presenters: Rosie Beaton from Super Request and Andrew Haug from The Racket. After taking a break early next year, Beaton will be back on the station next year in a new capacity. Haug will go back to his music career.

Beaton began hosting triple j’s weekday evening program ‘Super Request’ in 2001 and has been a close friend to listeners ever since. Every weeknight, she has warmed the nation with great new music and her quirky take on the world. In the last decade she has interviewed everyone from Muse, Tool and Marilyn Manson to local lads Silverchair, Gotye and Hilltop Hoods.

Rosie says: I think the success of Super Request is thanks to the amazing music lovers who requested songs over the years. I’ve always made the show about the listeners – their stories and requests – and I really enjoy the daily interaction and programming. I’ve had the best time hosting Super Request. I’m going to miss it, but it’s time for new opportunities.”

To celebrate Rosie’s final show, triple j is throwing a Super Request Super Farewell next Friday 9th December from 6-10pm, live at the Manning Bar, Sydney Uni. Listeners are invited to come along and help see her off with a bang! Rosie will be joined by surprise guests who have appeared on her show over the years – this is one not to be missed.

The new host for triple j’s evening program will be announced in January 2012.

Over the last decade Andrew Haug, better known as Haugy, has been a passionate champion of metal music on triple j. During his time hosting The Racket, he has conducted  612 interviews, from Ozzy Osbourne to Mastodon, Iron Maiden to Slipknot and all of the big 4, Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth. He has been a constant supporter of the local scene and reliable friend to metal fans every Tuesday night.

Haug says: “Thanks to triple j for what’s been an amazing ride and privilege. But the biggest thank you goes to The Racket listeners for all their support and dedication to the Heavy Metal genre in its many forms. This show has never been about me, I’m just the lucky messenger spreading the word & I’ll continue to do so.”

Haug will continue his involvement in the metal scene as well as drumming for the band Contrive. Tune into The Racket next Tuesday 6th December from 10pm – 1am for his final show.

Triple j is committed to supporting the Australian heavy metal scene and The Racket will return to the triple j airwaves in 2012. Plans for the new program host will be announced in January 2012.

triple j Manager Chris Scaddan said: “We’re sad but proud to farewell two genuine triple j icons. Both presenters have made an invaluable contribution to triple j in their time at the station. Haugy has served the metal masses with incredible enthusiasm over the years and he has set a high standard for future Racket hosts. Rosie Beaton has been a loyal radio friend to so many and helped tens of thousands of people get their favourite song on the airwaves every weeknight. Their final shows are set to be a huge radio party.”

All other regular triple j presenters are taking a break over summer from Friday 9th December and will be back on your radio on Monday 9th January 2012.
