A major new research study has found overwhelming support among Australians in regional and rural areas for the Federal Government to update outdated media laws so that local news services remain viable.

The toughest job in media right now is CEO of Southern Cross Austereo.  Since Kyle and Jackie O left the network in 2013, the stations have suffered with loss of audience share, and loss of revenue.  Mediaweek's James Manning speaks to new CEO Grant Blackley about the challenges ahead, and the plan for 2DayFM breakfast in Sydney.  Highlights of the session are included below.

SCA announces structural changes to regional business

After the announcement of a new Regional General Manager (RGM) structure earlier this week, Southern Cross Austereo has announced five of its long standing, high performing key regional executives will take on new leadership roles.

Ashley Myatt will take on a new senior management role managing the NSW region based out of Newcastle.

Rod Winner will step into the VIC / SA role, Sam Fotu will take on WA and Craig Davies will continue to manage the Tasmanian, Darwin and 7 Central regions.

Southern Cross Media Group annual financial results 'disappointing'

Southern Cross Media Group Limited has announced its financial results for the full year to 30 June 2015.

CEO Grant Blackley advised that the reported net loss after tax of $284.9m had been impacted by the impairment of the Group’s Metro and Regional assets.

Earnings Before Interest Tax Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA) is $163.2m. Net profit after tax (NPAT) excluding significant items is $64.8m.

New appointment at SCA

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) today announced Creina Chapman as its Head of Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Communications, effective October 6, 2015.

This newly created role will see Ms Chapman take responsibility for leading the company’s interaction with key stakeholders in regulatory matters, and in framing the agenda for the changes needed in the media industry.


SCA announces new head of radio sales Sydney

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has announced Carla Vella will return to the business as Head of Radio Sales, Sydney, effective Monday 10th August 2015.

Ms Vella will focus on driving the sales strategy across the entire Sydney radio portfolio and delivering integrated sales solutions across all SCA assets.

After a short time with Network Ten, Ms Vella returns to take on a more senior role where she will continue to provide commercial insights, innovative solutions and integrated ideation.

ACMA imposes penalties on SCA for Royal Prank

After months of negotiation, the ACMA has finally arrived at an agreed range of penalties and undertakings to be imposed on Southern Cross Austereo for the so called Royal Prank affair.

They're back and firing

They "secretly" drove us home last week and with the dress rehearsal over, as of July 13th Hamish and Andy are officially back on-air.

The duo, lured back by Southern Cross Austereo for a reported $4 million dollars each are back in the drive slot, ready to go head to head with Nova's Kate, Tim amd Marty and KiiS FM's Hughesy and Kate.

SCA appoints Brian Gallagher as its Chief Sales Officer
