Wave FM brings Taylor Swift to Wollongong … well, sort of

Wave FM Wollongong’s Lyndal and Crammy have capitalised on Taylor Swift mania by bringing her show to Wollongong … albeit with one small change.

Faced with zero budget, the popular drive team called on the Illawarra to help them put together a special thrifty event for Swifties, appropriately named ‘Taylor Thrift,’ featuring cabaret drag performer Fancy as the headline act.

Taylor Thrift performed 20 of the real Taylor’s hits, which kept the crowd dancing and singing in between making their own friendship bracelets and posing for photos in the Wave FM photo booth, another highlight of the night.

And nothing screams ‘thrifty’ more than holding the event at a community hall in suburban Albion Park, complete with fairy bread, Lavender Haze punch, and a glitter bar.

With the help of businesses across the Illawarra, the hall was brought to life for the 120+ listeners who were invited to the event.

“It was great to see the Illawarra embrace our crazy idea of a Taylor Swift event done on the cheap”, says Wave FM Drive presenter Ryan ‘Crammy’ Cram.

Co-presenter Lyndal Rogers says “We still can’t believe we pulled it off with no budget. Everyone who came loved it, and a big thanks to Fancy, our very own Taylor Thrift. She was awesome.”

Wave FM Content Director Barry Keohane was all in favour of the event, especially as it cost him nothing!

“I’m up for anything that doesn’t cost any money. And with so many Swifties and non-Swifties unable to get tickets to the four concerts in Sydney, we wanted to do something for them in Wollongong where they could come along and share in the Taylor Swift experience”.
