Hey Siri, play my favourite radio station

The Australian radio industry’s RadioApp has been updated to support Apple’s new Siri Shortcuts feature, meaning listeners can now ask the virtual assistant to play any of the 280 Australian radio stations on the app straight from the lock screen.

The update of the radio streaming app coincides with the release of Apple’s new iOS 12 operating system and three new iPhones, the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XR.

Siri is able to learn from listening habits and suggest shortcuts for users based on stations they regularly listen to using RadioApp, which is a significant move forward for all stations on the radio app, facilitating stations that are on the app to be activated by voice control.

Commercial Radio Australia CEO, Joan Warner says the update will make listening to radio on a mobile phone even easier, with listeners able to create shortcuts for listening to their favourite stations.

“Listeners who use Apple CarPlay will also be able to ask Siri to play or change radio stations in RadioApp hands-free while driving, providing a relaxing and safe driving experience.”

The commercial radio industry launched RadioApp in late 2016 to allow listeners to live stream commercial, ABC, SBS and DAB+ digital radio stations through one easy-to-use app.

Users can create a favourites list and swipe to see what shows and songs are playing on other stations.

Chromecast support was added in July, which means those using the Google plug-in device can also listen to Radioapp via their smart TV.

RadioApp can be downloaded free through the App Store and Google Play or visit www.radioapp.com.au for more info.
