2EC’s AM Tx off air due to floods

Heavy rain over the past 24 hours has caused flash flooding throughout the New South Wales south coast and Illawarra regions, putting one of 2EC’s transmitters off air. The station’s AM 765 transmitter site at Kalaru has been affected by the flooding.

2EC Program Director Kimmi Saker has told radioinfo: “Our tech is waiting for water to recede to be able to get into the site and get it cranked again. In the meantime our 765 AM listeners can get us on our 105.5 FM frequency.”

Up to 50 properties at Bega on the far south coast have been evacuated as the Bega River rises towards the predicted peak of 8.6 metres. Around 300 millimetres of rain fell in some areas yesterday and although rain eased overnight, the deluge has forced road closures and cancellations on the south coast train line.
