2LT marks 80 years broadcasting

2LT staff from the 50’s to the present day gathered for a small and informal gathering at Club Lithgow on the weekend to mark 80 years of operation for the station.

The station was officially opened on Friday June 30th 1939 by Minister for Customs, JN Lawson, who told the SMH at the time that “…the Press and radio should play a vital part in the determination of man’s standard of education and entertainment,” and he congratulated the controlling company on its enterprise.

The station was located on the Great Western Highway in Bowenfels, before relocating in 1974 to a purpose built facility in Lithgow.

At the celebrations this weekend Barbara Orr, who has been at 2LT for over 50 years, was presented with a special CRA plaque recognising her contribution to the stations.
