2NSB wins community radio awards

Sydney community station 2NSB has won two awards at the Annual Community Broadcasting Conference.

The Chatswood station received a ‘highly commended’ for the ‘Sounds of Autumn’ promotion and a further ‘highly commended’ in the ‘getting the community involved in your station’ category for their ‘Tech Group Get Member Campaign’.

The ‘Sounds of Autumn’ campaign, was created by the station’s Public Relations Director Dennis Rutzou and featured popular jazz singer Nicki Crayson as the ‘face’ of the promotion on posters and newspaper advertisements, as well as singing on an on-air commercial.

The ‘Tech Group Get Member Campaign’ was devised by Technical Director John Maizels and was successful in increasing the size of the 2NSB Technical Group, which is responsible for all engineering aspects of the station.

“We used a targeted on-air announcement to appeal to the right sort of person, and the response exceeded our targets. This campaign was absolute proof that messages on Community Radio have impact”, he said.

According to 2NSB Chairman Allen Morley, the awards are a recognition from other community broadcasters of the quality of the work being undertaken by the volunteers who help run 2NSB.

“We have only two people who are paid by our station, so the bulk of the work, include on-air presentation, technical and promotion, is undertaken by our force of eighty volunteers.

“Although, we do have such talent at our disposal, we can always use more, so if anyone in the North Shore community is interested in becoming involved in community broadcasting, please contact our Studio Manager Richard Osborne on (02) 9419 6969 “, he said.
