2SER appoints a new managing director

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Macquarie University have appointed Martin Walters as Managing Director of radio station 2SER.

Walters has been working in broadcasting for 20 years and joins 2SER from a leadership role at the CBAA where he managed its national programming service, the Community Radio Network (CRN).

This role included establishing multimedia content projects and leading a digital transition process.

He is passionate about community broadcasting and has already worked closely with 2SER for several years on its national program distribution activities, including The Wire, Federal Budget broadcasts, the Think suite of programs and podcasts, as well as growing the sector’s capacity for news production.

Walters says “As a longstanding listener and former volunteer, I’ve always admired 2SER’s ability to entertain, inform and push new boundaries. I’m delighted to be joining the station in its 40th year and look forward to celebrating this achievement with the rest of the 2SER community in 2019 – as well as playing my part in ensuring it maintains its essential role in Sydney’s media landscape well into the future.”

Walters will commence in the role on January 14 and succeeds Steve Ahern who stepped into the temporary fill-in role of Acting Managing Director for the past six months since Melanie Withnall left to take up a job at ABC Radio Sydney.
