4BC’s John Miller awarded Centenary Medal

4BC breakfast presenter John Miller has been honoured with the Centenary Medal, as an Australian who has helped shape the nation.

Miller, who hosts breakfast with Ross Davie on Talk 1116 Brisbane’s 4BC, was cited for “long service as a radio and television journalist and supporting charitable and community causes”.

Miller has spent 28 years in radio and TV news and current affairs. He is a former news director of Radio 2UE in Sydney and Executive Producer Current Affairs for the Seven Network in Brisbane and Sydney. He has also worked overseas in the U.S, U.K, Middle East and Far East.

About 15,500 Australians have received the one-off Centenary Medal, created to honour those who have contributed to Australian society or government. Federal, state and territory governments submitted nominations last year, and a committee chaired by historian Geoffrey Blainey assessed the list.

Other well-known Australians to receive the Federal Government honour include Don Bradman, Eric Abraham, Ian Thorpe, Jason Akermanis, Kylie Minogue, Peter Beattie, Joh Bjelke-Petersen, Kerry Packer, Rupert Murdoch, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Sigrid Thornton, Cathy Freeman, Gough Whitlam and Pat Rafter.

John Miller said: “I am very proud. These awards don’t follow the traditional mould of honouring the great and the wise – if you look through the list of recipients, there are not only prominent Australians, but many grassroots Australians, whose only motivation has been to make life better for their families, communities and countries. I’m pleased and proud to be considered in the latter category.”

4BC General Manager David McDonald is thrilled with the announcement:“We’re very pleased, on behalf of John and his family, and we’re proud to see John’s radio services and media recognised in this man.”
