6TZ/Triple M Southwest turns 80

The Bunbury station was officially launched by the Lieutenant Governor Sir James Mitchell and the State Premier John C Willcock.

Established for a cost of 7,000 pounds, 6TZ became the 100th commercial broadcaster in Australia.

The service began on a Wednesday morning, just as World War 2 was ramping up with Hitler finishing the short campaign invading Poland.

Triple M celebrated today with a 3-hour special on Allan for Breakfast and on the Drive Home with Cliff, bringing back announcers from previous years to share their memories and memorable moments working on 6TZ.

Triple M staff celebrated with a huge 80th birthday party morning tea.
