92.9 listeners pack their houses to the rafters

It was a wild morning in the Perth suburbs of Woodvale and Viveash last Friday, and it wasn’t just because of the bad weather.  Two feisty families competed in Lisa, Baz and Sam’s FM92.9 breakfast competition Packed to the Rafter’s in an attempt to squeeze the most amount of people under their roof.

Both listeners went on an intense campaign this week to recruit as many people as possible to pack into their house for the chance to win a trip to Sydney for lunch with the cast of Packed to the Rafters and $5,000 cash.  They hit the streets with desperate tactics including pamphlet drops, PA announcements at local supermarkets and donations of food from local business to help get the feet through their doors.

On a soggy Perth morning, the two families opened their front doors and were given an hour to pack their place to the rafters.  Loyal locals braved the cold, trampling mud through the houses to support their chosen teams and take advantage of the hospitality.  Cath from Viveash pulled in her numbers with the help of the Midvale Footy Club and a big effort from her sister making the trip from Darwin, whilst Ailsa from Woodvale’s home turned local fete with her Local MP, a sausage sizzle and even a raffle to enhance her chances.

“They are so into this, it’s huge!  It sounds like a Justin Bieber Concert,”  Sam Mac said reacting to the roar of the crowd.

Packed to the Rafter’s cast member George “Carbo” Karandonis, told Lisa, Baz and Sam he was looking forward to serving the winning house a nice Greek meal at his family restaurant.  He announced Ailsa the winner, with a huge 193 people with Cath managing  81.  George joked:  “I don’t reckon I have that many relatives.”

Lisa, Baz and Sam asked what’s next for Ailsa’s household after a huge 193 people, many she didn’t know, walked through her house on her new carpet.  “I’m going to pour myself a big glass of wine and put my feet up.  My house is still chockers!”  Generous winner Ailsa gave $300 of her prize money to competitor Cath:  “I know all the stress and strain it’s been.”
