Aaron Kearney leaves ABC Newcastle

Long-time ABC broadcaster and sports commentator Aaron Kearney has hung up his headphones at ABC Newcastle.

Aaron, who presented the breakfast program for a decade in Newcastle, called the A-league for Grandstand, worked for ABC International and just returned this year to present Drive, says “Working at the ABC has given me a career I never dared to dream of and a million memories I treasure. But as I embark on this exciting new phase of my life, I am going to miss two things terribly; my beloved ABC colleagues, and the many people who have chosen to let me into their lives through the radio.”

Aaron is working with DFAT and the Griffith Asia Institute, continuing his sports diplomacy work in the Pacific and heading overseas to take up a position with a FIFA commentary team at the Women’s World Cup.

Paul Turton, who is well-known to ABC’s Newcastle audience, will be temporarily stepping into Aaron’s Drive role.
