ABC’s Classic 100 countdown is now open

Voting is now open for ABC Classic’s Classic 100, the ultimate classical music countdown, and this year they want to know who is your favourite composer.

ABC Classic Weekend Breakfast presenter Ed Ayres says, “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to champion the composer that means the most to you. Make sure you vote so that your composer gets the place they deserve in the countdown – after all the joy they’ve given, it’s the least you can do!”

The voting list of over 500 composers encompasses nine centuries, covering a vast array of styles and nationalities, and whilst household names such as Bach, Beethoven and Mozart have featured heavily in previous countdowns, there are sure to be surprises amongst the top 100.

Breakfast presenter Russell Torrance says, “We’re asking for people to champion their favourite composer – and that means we’re going to be hearing about the composers close to people’s hearts. Every day of the year, we hear from our listeners about the music that moves them and touches their lives, and this music is always from an astonishing array of composers. At last we’re going to find out definitively the public’s favourite composer, and none of the results in this countdown are a given.”

Content Manager Toby Chadd says “Over the 18 years of the Classic 100 countdowns, 56 composers have had their music in the top 10. The scene is set for a fascinating and close contest this year, in the ultimate Battle of the Composers.”

Find out who ABC Classic presenters are voting for, including selections from Russell Torrance, Ed Ayres, Vanessa Hughes, Damien Beaumont, Genevieve Lang, Martin Buzacott, Mairi Nicolson, Greta Bradman, Margaret Throsby and more.

Every Friday at 1pm, in the Classic 100 show, Alice Keath gives the inside line on previous countdowns, including the winners, the losers, the surprises, and the great music.
Tune into Breakfast and Drive to hear music by the one-hit wonders, catch debates between Classic presenters and special guests, and explore the reasons behind why certain composers have achieved mythic status.

Loving hearing the "best of the best", as various presenters revisit previous Top 100's! So much wonderful music across the genres / themes. How on earth does one choose one Favourite Composer???
