ABC podcast ‘It’s Not a Race’ returns

Season two launches today with two episodes exploring storytelling and representation. 

Race, racism, culture and identity are again up for discussion as Beverley Wang sits down with Chelsea Bond, Anita Heiss, Randa Abdel-Fattah, Claire G Coleman, Ryan Griffen, Black Lives Matter’s Patrisse Cullors and Rodney Diverlus, Candy Bowers, Busty Beatz and Ronny Chieng. 

The podcast tackles subjects such as, has the apocalypse already come and gone? What are the basics of taking on racist rolls online? How joyful is it flip with script on racist stereotypes and win? And, what is the complex, ambivalent relationship many people have with the term ‘people of colour’?

In episode one, Beverley Want interviews authors Anita Heiss and Randa Abdel-Fattah, who share how they use their writing to claim space in the mainstream for marginalised characters. And in episode two, find out how novelist Claire G Coleman and Cleverman creator Ryan Griffen use futuristic fiction to confront Australia’s colonial past.

The It’s Not A Race season finale will be recorded at a live listening event, a partnership between ABC RN and Audiocraft in Melbourne on Monday 4 December, featuring Paola Balla Santilla Chingaipe, Benjamin Law and Yeo.
