ABC RN’s creative radio experiment

“Think red carpets, selfie walls and champagne towers – welcome to opening night, and you’re about to get swept up by the magic of it all. But from backstage, things aren’t quite as they appear…”

Introducing a new radio musical from ABC RN’s Creative Audio Unit – Getting On With The Show – a production from The Space Company and starring leading Australian musical theatre performers, Trevor Ashley (Les Miserables), Alinta Chidzey (Mary Poppins), Stefanie Jones (Once) and Robert Tripolino (NED).

Created by Joel Carnegie, Getting On With The Show tracks the story of a Reporter [Joel Carnegie] who goes backstage on opening night to investigate the back stories, anecdotes and personalities of the theatrical world, and to find out what it takes to step into the spotlight.

In this creative radio experiment, up-and-coming Australian musical theatre writing duo, Robert Tripolino and Hugo Chiarella have written the show tunes, including the big opening number “The Light” – a rocking pop tune that channels everything contemporary musical theatre should be.

“This is a production where musical theatre meets a fresh approach to radio storytelling. This is a story about courage… of taking a chance. We’ve got some fine Australian talent in this production – but perhaps you haven’t heard them quite like this before,” says Joel Carnegie.

Getting On With The Show will air June 12th 11am AEST on ABC RN’s Radiotonic and repeated June 14th at 3pm.
