ACMA proposes to extend spectrum for LPONs

The Australian Communication and Media Authority is proposing to extend the current licencing of LPONs until 2025 (the current determinations will expire on 31 December 2020) and is conducting a review to determine the future of spectrum usage.

The ACMA says ‘we are proposing to extend the availability of spectrum for LPON services until 31 December 2025. We consider it prudent to continue the current arrangements until the impact of the proposed new legislation is clearer.

‘Further discussions with industry about changes to LPON arrangements will take place as part of the development of a licence product for open narrowcasting under the new Act.’

Submissions can be made here. Consultation closes 13 July 2018.
