ACMA report peers into profitability

The ACMA has released its Broadcasting Financial Results report, a snapshot of the aggregated expenditure, revenue, profitability, assets, liability and net assets of commercial radio and tv.
 
It is produced using information provided to the ACMA by commercial broadcasters to satisfy their licence fee disclosure requirements.
 
The figures provide a snapshot of the financial state of the industry across the years 2009 to 2012.

The 261 licenced commercial stations on the Broadcasting Services Band, earnt a total of $1.125 billion in 2011-12, down on the previous two years. Profitability was also down overall.
 

 

 
Australia’s 209 regional commercial stations and 52 metro commercial stations all made less profit during the 2012 reporting period than in previous years.
 
 

 
 

 
The 152 FM stations were more profitable the country’s 104 AM stations.
 
FM stations made $759 million in revenue and $231 million profit in the 2011-12 financial year.
 
AM stations made $254 million revenue and nearly $18 million profit.
