ACT Votes: Election Coverage on ABC

Voters in the ACT go to the polls this Saturday, October 15 to elect the ninth ACT Legislative Assembly. Since 2001, the Labor Party has governed the ACT. Labor’s first term Chief Minister Andrew Barr and Liberal Opposition Leader Jeremy Hanson go head to head, to determine whether there will be a change in leadership.

Canberrans can keep up-to-date with the latest news and information on ABC radio, TV, online and mobile, with full coverage of the ACT Election leading up to polling day.

Providing the best daily radio coverage of topical issues throughout the election campaign, 666 ABC Canberra will continue to keep listeners informed right across the day, with the 7pm ABC News each night giving viewers the full round-up of the day’s politics, issues and news. Just days ahead of polling day on Wednesday, October 12, both leaders will face each other in a live Leaders’ Debate, moderated by ABC News Political Correspondent Greg Jennett at the National Press Club. The broadcast will be live on ABC TV (ACT only) at 7.30pm.

TELEVISION 6.00pm ABC (ACT only) and ABC News 24 (AEDT) Live from the ABC Studios in Canberra, join host Greg Jennett and ABC Election Analyst Antony Green, with a panel of political experts, for a detailed analysis of the votes as they are counted. TV guests on the night will include both federal and local politicians from the major parties with appearances throughout the evening from Senator Zed Seselja (Federal Senator for ACT, Liberal Party), Senator Katy Gallagher (Federal Senator for ACT, ALP), and Australian Greens Senator Scott Ludlam. From the ACT Legislative Assembly Vicki Dunne (ACT Liberals), Meegan Fitzharris (ALP) and Shane Rattenbury (ACT Greens).

RADIO 6.00pm 666 ABC Canberra The 666 ABC Canberra Election Night Party promises a complete wrap of territory election news and events. Breakfast and Drive hosts Philip Clark and Adam Shirley will lead the live coverage, serving up an entertaining and informative mix of politics and party. Joining them in the studio will be musical guests including political cabaret act Shortis and Simpson, along with local and federal politicians, social commentators, image makers and community representatives. ABC Election Analyst Antony Green will provide updates and analysis, and the roving election team including intrepid field reporters Louise Maher and John Barrington will be crossing to the Australian Electoral Commission and dropping in on candidates and revellers as the action unfolds throughout the night.
