Alan Jones defames NSW policewoman Lola Scott

A jury has found that former NSW Assistant Commissioner policewoman Lola Scott was defamed by broadcaster Alan Jones during two lots of on-air comments during 2001, while Jones was at 2UE.

Lola Scott, who was since sacked from the police service, received the judgement in the NSW Supreme Court today.

The 4 man jury found in favour of 9 of the 11 imputations raised by Scott’s barrister, Stuart Littlemore.

They found that Scott was identified by the words “a very senior female police officer” and that Jones’ references “would have conveyed to a reasonable and ordinary listener that Lola Scott was corrupt and that cronyism was behind her promotion.”

Further legal argument is still to be heard regarding defences and possible damages.
