Alan Jones joins John Laws on 2SM

UPDATE: listen to Jones and Laws on Air together here.

They were colleagues at 2UE, they were rivals when Jones moved to 2GB.

Will they be colleagues again on 2SM?

Next Monday will see Alan Jones join John Laws on Bill Caralis‘ Supernetwork. Is it a one off or a portent of the future?

Our source told radioinfo: “Although there might have been strained relations a long time ago, John and Alan have a massive mutual respect for each other and get along quite well.”

Both broadcasters also respect Bill Caralis and it “does not come as a surprise” that both are happy to be on air on the Caralis network.

Jones is expected to be on air between about 9.30 and 10 am next Monday, with Laws in the studio and Jones remotely due to covid.

Will it be the first step in a deal that will bring Jones back to radio?

“We don’t know, but Bill certainly enjoys the tongues wagging,” says our source.

The Jones camp tells us that Alan understands the power of radio and would happily rejoin the audio medium for the right opportunity now that he is no longer bound by his contract exclusion clauses with Nine Radio.

When Alan Jones left radio and went to subscription tv, his audience dropped from 476,000 on 2GB breakfast to 63,000 on Sky News evenings.

It may be Alan Jones’ first step back to radio where he has more direct live connection with his audience and more influence in the medium that transformed him from a football coach to a radio influencer.

When Jones left 2GB last year, Laws called into the last show, telling Alan:

“I’m going to miss you… You and I have had the friendliest bitterness in the history of radio.”

Listeners in Sydney can hear 2SM on AM 1269, and the show is also heard on Super Network stations, but if you are trying to listen to it on the CRA Radio App you won’t find it. Caralis stations have not been made available to the app. If you want to see news of the show on the 2SM website, you can forget that too, the site is offline, but there is a stream available here.
