Australian works selected for 2016 International Rostrum of Composers

Three composers have been selected by ABC Classic FM to represent Australia at the 2016 International Rostrum of Composers (IRC).

The composers, Lachlan Skipworth (34, Perth), Katy Abbott Kvasnica (44, Melbourne) and Andrew Aronowicz (27, Melbourne), were selected from a cohort of thirty-five candidates for their high standard in composition and performance.

The IRC, this year hosted by Polish Radio and the Polish National Forum of Music in Wroclaw, Poland, is an international forum which facilitates the exchange and broadcast of contemporary art music.

Representatives from the thirty national radio networks participating in the IRC collectively present around sixty new works. An adjudication process ultimately finds the most important works in two categories: general and young composers. These works are then presented in a range of concerts and broadcasts around the world.

The three Australian works presented at the IRC have been recorded by ABC Classic FM and feature some of Australia’s leading musicians and ensembles. These recordings, and interviews with the composers, can be heard via the ABC Classic FM Australian Music homepage.

ABC Classic FM will broadcast highlights from the 2016 International Rostrum of Composers from Wednesday 1 June to Saturday 4 June. Australia’s entries, along with interviews with the selected composers, will be available for download from June series New Waves Podcast.
