Bob Scott comments on 2SM

Following up radioinfo’s report a few weeks ago we spoke to Bob Scott to try and get some more information about any possible sale of 2SM. Here is the conversation.

radioinfo: Is 2SM on the market?

Scott: Not as far as I know. Bill is very happy with 2SM. His Super Network is performing well and he is looking forward to the future, especially the coming of digital radio.

radioinfo: If it were to be on the market, what do you think it would be worth?

Scott: That’s not for me to say

radioinfo:What’s your involvement with the station at the moment?

Scott:I negotiated the sale 4 years ago from Chris Murphy to Bill Caralis and I do special projects for 2SM from time to time.

Although Bob Scott did not see it as his role to put a figure on the market value of 2SM, past figures may give some indication of its value if ever the station were for sale.

The new the Gold Coast licence recently sold for $26 million, the Gosford licence sold for about $13.5 million, 4BH is believed to have sold for $12 million and 2UE/4BC fetched $90 million.

On that basis some industry players have put a figure of $25 million on 2SM. Southern Cross CEO Tony Bell is on the record as saying $25 million is not a price Southern Cross would be interested in paying.
