CBAA Calls for nominations for the Inaugural People’s Choice Volunteer of the Year Award

In celebration of National Volunteer Week 2021, 17-23 May, the CBAA has launched the inaugural Community Radio Volunteer of the Year — People’s Choice award.

CBAA CEO, Jon Bisset, says, “Without the contribution of more than 22,000 volunteers, Australian community radio wouldn’t be the vibrant, diverse and inclusive sector that it is today. Each volunteer brings to the sector their own unique voice and story and, through the Volunteer of the Year award, we wanted to gather these stories and give their community an opportunity to celebrate them.”

Aiming to recognise and honour the invaluable contributions that volunteers make to the community radio sector, the CBAA has opened nominations for the first round of competition and is seeking to hear from sector superstars as to why they or their colleagues should be the CBAA’s first People’s Choice Volunteer of the Year, with all nominees in the running to win special prizes.

Requirements for the nomination include:

  • Basic contact details for the nominee, including name, station and email address
  • 200 words or less on:
    • The significant impact the volunteer makes to their station
    • How the volunteer continues to engage and inspire
  • A high-resolution profile image of the nominee, ideally at the station doing what they love most

Nominations for the first round are now open and will close on Tuesday, 11 May at 5pm AEDT.

Eight finalists will be determined by an internal CBAA panel based on the number and quality of nominations a volunteer receives.

The winner will be chosen via a poll on the CBAA Facebook Page, which will be launched on Wednesday, 12 May, with voting closing at 5pm on Wednesday, 19 May.
