CBAA conference program is finalised

The CBAA has finalised the program for this year’s conference in Melbourne.

Among highlights is the Walkley Foundation Journalism Masterclass on newsgathering and verification, supported by the Google News Initiative.

This is a practical, relevant digital skills masterclass to develop in-house journalism that is suitable for beginners and experienced journalists looking to develop their digital skills, this workshop will teach how free online tools can support newsgathering, research and verification.

Keynote speaker for the conference is Professor Peter Greste who will draw on his experience in Egypt where he was convicted for terrorism and “false news” offences, and discusses how the situation happened in one of the world’s most advanced democracies, what that means for community broadcasting, and what his organisation, the Alliance for Journalists’ Freedom, is proposing is done about it.

Stephen Pead will present a sponsorship workshop on how stations can leverage and maximise opportunities, build partnerships and gain revenue.

Other presenters include radio futurologist James Cridland, Manager, CBAA’s Amrap Andrew Khedoori and Triple R presenter Geraldine Hickey.
