Digital radio nations visit Australia

Radio broadcasters from Malaysia and Hong Kong are visiting Sydney this week to take part in a CRA digital radio study tour to gain firsthand knowledge and experience of DAB+ digital radio.

The trialing and subsequent roll out of DAB+ digital radio will begin over the next 12 to 18 months in Hong Kong and two delegates from (RTHK) Radio TV Hong Kong are taking part in the tour. A two year DAB+ trial is set to start in Malaysia later this year and the delegation includes representatives from leading Malaysian radio networks and the country’s national broadcasting training institute.

Commercial Radio Australia chief executive officer, Joan Warner says “DAB+ digital radio technology is expanding its reach as an international standard and Australian commercial and public broadcasters have the knowledge and experience to share with our Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) colleagues.”

The digital radio study tour delegates will meet with commercial and public broadcasters as well as the industry regulator the ACMA, the Department of Broadband Communications and the Digital Economy (DBCDE) and the tower operator TXA Australia.

Leader of the study tour Dato’ Borhanuddin Bin Osman, Executive Director of AMP Radio Networks and President of Commercial Radio Malaysia said, “We have built excellent relationships with Commercial Radio Australia over many years and as Australia is a world leader in digital radio we are sure to gain invaluable DAB+ technical and commercial knowledge from this visit.”
