ABC DIG PD Stuart Matchett retires today after 30 years with the national broadcaster.

Matchett moved to the ABC from Brisbane’s community station 4ZZZ and was one of the first presenters at 2JJ.

He was Network PD at the jays for 12 years during the period of expansion to a national network.

Matchett has worked in radio since 1975, mostly at the ABC, but he also spent three early years in Sydney commercial radio as a music director and acting program director.

He has written on music for the Daily Telegraph and Rolling Stone and was a member of the team which produced the Australian Rock Music CD ROM - Real Wild Child.

He leaves with many skills and options to pursue, having also previously done time as an actor and science and maths teacher.
