The Edge is top commercial network in NZ Radio Survey 2

Results for the second New Zealand survey of 2016 have been released for the Major Markets, as well as Auckland and Wellington.

Population data indicates about 3,162,000 people aged 10+ years live in the Major Markets survey area used for the Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Survey. Of these, 78.2% listen to a commercial radio station each week. 347,000 people aged 10+ years live in the Wellington survey area.

The survey, conducted over 18 weeks and sampling 10,321 people shows the Edge Network has most commercial station listeners, with 518,400 different people aged 10+ tuning in each week.

Newstalk ZB Network has second highest with 398,600 different listeners, followed by More FM Network with 391,000.

The Breeze Network has fourth highest commercial cumulative audience of 360,000, and ZM Network is fifth highest with 347,900.

The highest commercial station market share was achieved by Newstalk ZB Network with an 11.7% share of all commercial radio listening. Second highest commercial share is Edge Network with 8.3%, followed by More FM Network with 8.2%. Fourth highest commercial share is The Sound Network with 7.6%, and Breeze Network has 7.5%.

Breakfast results (Mon-Fri 6am-9am) show Newstalk ZB Network with the highest share; 15.0% of commercial radio breakfast listening, followed by More FM Network with a 9.2% share. The Edge Network is third with 8.0% share of commercial radio listening, followed by Breeze Network with 6.9% and The Rock Network is fifth with 6.3%.

The Major Markets are Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Northland, Waikato, Tauranga, Rotorua, Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, Manawatu, Nelson, Dunedin and Southland.

In Auckland, the highest commercial station market share was achieved by Newstalk ZB with a 14.0% share of all commercial radio listening.
Second highest commercial share is Mai FM with 8.3%, followed by The Breeze with 7.7%.
Fourth highest commercial share is Coast with 7.4%, and Edge has fifth highest with 6.7%.

In Wellington the highest commercial station market share was achieved by Newstalk ZB with a 12.7% share of all commercial radio listening.
Second highest commercial share is The Breeze with 10.7%, followed by ZM with 8.1%.
Fourth highest commercial share is Edge with 7.7%, and Hits has fifth highest with 7.1%.
