Female chemistry at Mix 101.1

Chrissie Swan and Jane Hall believe they are well matched to create a successful breakfast program on Mix 101.1 Melbourne. After a week on air, ARN’s National Content Director Duncan Campbell agrees. He has told radioinfo: “At the end of the first week we’re still excited by the potential of this show.”

“The chemistry between Chrissie and Jane is very evident and both are great story tellers. It’s early days and we’ve identified key areas we need to work on but overall I think the content is right on target and very compelling. Importantly the show remains relatable to men and women which is going to be important to us as we chase better ratings this year.”

Hall, a former Neighbours actor, and Swan, a former co-host of the Channel 10 show The Circle, have been successful in their previous media endeavours; Swan has been awarded a Logie, and Hall has had a 27 year acting career, with 4½  years spent on Ramsey Street.

Swan told Marie Clare that she had been “really apprehensive” up until the duo’s first broadcast on Monday, about her decision to quit The Circle. However, after the shift she “thought ‘oh my God, I’ve made the right decision’.”

Swan is looking forward to having a less stressful job while she works for Mix: “The nine-hours-a-day daily grind was just too much for me and because [The Circle] is a national show, we didn’t have any holidays at all. We worked straight through, five days a week, nine or 10 hours a day, January to December…[It was] just a bit brutal.”

Hall has wanted to have a stint in radio for a while. She told The Age: “These jobs are like hen’s teeth. It might be once a decade a job like this comes up. I’m extremely excited but I’m on a very steep learning curve so there is a fair bit of anxiety involved as well… We can barely stop laughing, We’ve really hit it off so it’s like a dream to be working together.”

The duo believe their female dominated breakfast show will give them a point of difference in the competitive Melbourne market.

Announcing the appointment of the breakfast pair last year, Duncan Campbell told radioinfo at the time:

“These are obviously major changes for ARN. I’ve made no secret of the fact that we are determined to be more competitive in Melbourne next year and we need breakfast to work on both stations for that to happen. Breakfast is the most important day-part for any radio station, and we have decided to launch with our strongest breakfast proposition yet.”
