Hot Tomato jumps into second place in Gold Coast survey 2

The second Gold Coast survey for 2012 has just been released, with all local commercial stations losing share and ABC stations gaining audience. The local ABC station 91.7 rose slightly, and triple j and Radio National also increased.

Gold FM continues to lead the market, with Hot Tomato moving into second place after Sea FM dropped 2.2 share points. Triple J is in fourth place.

Gold dropped by 1.5 share points to 15.1%, losing audience in its younger demographics, but more importantly in its key target demographics 40-64. Mornings, Afternoons and Weekends lost listeners, but Drive and Evenings balanced out some of the losses with a good increase coming from Merrick Watts’ networked drive show and surrounding local shifts hosted by Al Dobie and Dave Gleeson.

Hot Tomato snatched second place in the market, despite dropping one share point to 13.6%. The Tomato gained listeners in the 10-17 demographic and also picked up a few more older listeners, but dropped audience in other age groups. All shifts went down at Hot Tomato, with Drive and Evening taking a significant hit.

Third placed Sea FM dropped most, losing 2.2 share points to 12.8% after significant drops in all its younger demographics. All shifts lost audience, particularly Breakfast, Weekends and Drive.

Fourth placed triple j had the biggest lift of the survey, gaining 1.1 share points to 9.3%, after good gains in the 18-39 demographics. Weekends, Mornings and Afternoons all lifted for the ABC’s national youth station.

Local Gold Coast ABC station 91.7 is in equal fifth place with sister station ABC612 from Brisbane also scoring 4.7%. Both stations gained audience, particularly in the core 40-64 demographics. ABC91.7 had good gains across all shifts, with a good lift in Breakfast. Brisbane’s ABC612 also lifted in all shifts.

Radio National is next in the lineup this survey after gaining one share point to 3.0%.

Brisbane commercial stations Triple M, Nova and 97.3 also take a fraction of the  Gold Coast figures, with all Brisbane stations also being heard in the market.
