Change happens swiftly at MRN. No sooner had we flagged the rumours than they were proven true with Ian Holland taking over the breakfast shift and moving back to 2CH full time, after David Kidd took over the 2GB program director role. Holland will double as 2CH PD. Gareth McCray has left 2CH breakfast to make way for Holland. Trevor Sinclair will not continue as part of the regular 2CH lineup, although it is expected that he will take up fill in shifts as needed.
George Illich is expected to take over afternoons from 1-6pm and Mardi Cole will do nights.
Matt Pardy is also moving on, and is likely to move back to the country.
The changes, which have not yet been publicly announced, should be known next week, along with changes at 2GB which will see Steve Price move into nights.
Ian Holland back on air at 2CH is good, but it should have been in place of Bob Rogers, who is now sounding really old and tired. At some point, someone needs to tell him that he's making lots of mistakes.
Trevor Sinclair not being there on a regular basis is more than a pity, and if I'm reading this correctly Gareth McCray won't be there at all. Yet George Ilich gets a longer shift? Starting at 1.00pm? Does that mean Bob Rogers is getting even more time on air?
All in all, it sounds as though 2CH might be about to retreat from its recent foray into the 70s and 80s. That would be a shame. It's sounded better recently than it has for a long, long time.
BTW, Steve Price to evenings at 2GB is GREAT!!! But he should have been given Drive in place of Ben Fordham. Even 2GB's own announcers slag off at him.
