Indigenous radio consumption findings released

McNair Ingenuity Research has released the findings of their 2011 Indigenous Media Omnibus surveys, with results showing that commercial, public and community all play a vital role in various Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

– Commercial music stations were most listened to in metropolitan areas (regularly listened to by 59% versus 25% of Indigenous Australians aged 18+ in remote areas)

– Local community radio stations attract a greater proportion of regular listeners in regional areas (listened to by 48% versus 34% and 36% in metropolitan and remote areas respectively)

– ABC stations were most popular amongst those in remote areas (regularly listened to by 41% versus 38% in regional areas and 23% in metropolitan areas)
