Indonesia may tighten media controls

The Indonesian Parliament is considering new legislation that will tighten controls on foreign news and current affairs content being re-broadcast on local stations.

With a rapid growth of new TV and Radio stations in the past few years, the demand for foreign news sources has grown. Radio Australia and ABC Asia-Pacific TV have increased the number of their programs rebroadcast into the region in recent years, but this legislation may reverse the trend.
