International guest for 2017 Audiocraft conference

Audiocraft Conference returns in 2017.

The conference is an opportunity for radiomakers and podcasters from all over Australia to come together and skill-up, share new ideas, celebrate original and locally produced content, and meet potential collaborators.

Producer Megan Tan from Radiotopia, the indie powerhouse podcast network in the United States, will join the program lineup. Tan is the creative mind behind Millennial — a podcast about coming of age and documenting what day-to-day life is like for the millennial generation in the real world today.

In her first ever Australian appearance, Tan will share rare insights into the creative business of podcasting in an in-conversation session with independent Australian podcaster Sophie Harper.

Harper is the the creator of Not By Accident, a documentary series about choosing to become a single mother and how to cope with being one, which has received acclaim in New Statesman and the Guardian Australia. The two producers will discuss their creative approaches, self-directing their careers, and making deeply personal audio stories.

This year, the conference program expands to feature a wide range of sessions, from how to survive and thrive as a freelancer, to navigating sensitive and controversial themes and subject matters. In a practical presentation, Belinda Lopez and Jesse Cox from ABC RN will take apart an episode from This Is About, and talk through their process, from the interview through to the final mix.

About the conference, Audiocraft Executive Director Kate Montague says: “The Australian podcast landscape is buzzing and there are a growing number of opportunities for producers. By celebrating some of our audio heroes, and unpacking what we love about working with sound, we’re hoping to inspire producers to take their work to the next level and share it with the world.”

The Audiocraft Conference seeks to provide audio content makers with practical knowledge, tools and networks. It harnesses a thriving community and culture and sets the scene for a bright Australian audio future.
